Children of the world:
another step forward in our collaboration with Operation Smile
Lladró created Children of the world as part of its ongoing collaboration with Operation Smile, a charity organization whose mission is to correct facial deformities in underprivileged children all over the world. With this new initiative, besides paying tribute to the work of Operation Smile, Lladró sets aside part of the price of each figurine sold for the organization.
Since 2006 Lladró has been working with Operation Smile on different initiatives that have led to the donation of over $350,000. This collaboration, which started with Lladró USA, was extended in 2007 to the rest of the world. Setting aside a percentage of the sales of certain pieces and collections, as well as part of the sales registered during signing tours by the Lladró family, we have managed to put a smile back of the face of thousands of children.
Children of the world is another step in the
collaboration between the two, a joint project materialized
in a piece featuring children from
the five continents. The synthesized forms and the
simple decoration incarnate the spirit that motivates
the work of Operation Smile. The white matte of the
children contrasts with the glazed base decorated
with bluish enamels, thus proportioning further decorative
strength to the piece.

- A
part of sales price of this piece will be donated to
Operation Smile.-
Children of the world was
presented in the USA during the foundation’s 7th Annual Gala
held in September in Los Angeles. Founded in 1982 in
Norfolk (Virginia, USA) by the plastic surgeon William
P. Magee and his wife, Kathleen, Operation Smile has
a wide network of volunteer doctors which has successfully
operated over 100,000 children all over the world with
harelips, cleft palates and other malformations.
Over and above the economic funding, Lladró’s commitment with Operation Smile encouraged Ángeles Lladró, daughter of Juan Lladró, the eldest of the three founding Brothers of the brand, to take part as a volunteer in the missions the organization undertook in 2006 in
Kenya
and in 2007 in
México.
